What West Palm Beach Public Works will and won't pick up

The City of West Palm Beach collects its own trash through Public Works, Solid Waste (publicworks@wpb.org, (561) 822-2075). Bulk is a weekly service on your bulk day for residents who live in single-family homes, and the limit is short: up to 3 bulk items can be placed at the curb. More than that is a fee-based special pickup you arrange with the City.

The refused list matters for anyone remodeling. The City does not take building or construction materials, commercially generated waste, propane tanks, water tanks, drums, vehicle equipment, or wood fencing, decks and concrete. Moving boxes get one courtesy collection, and no hazardous materials of any kind are allowed. For construction material, the City's page says it can be delivered to the Solid Waste Authority's landfill or any SWA permitted facility.

In short, if it came off your house or out of your yard during a project, the curb will not take it. That is where a hauler earns the call.

Yard waste rules that catch landscaping jobs

Yard waste is one pile, up to 10 cubic yards (18 feet long, 4 feet wide, 4 feet high), set out the day before your pickup. Branches and limbs cannot be longer than four feet or thicker than six inches, and stumps cannot be over 12 inches across. For more than 10 cubic yards, call (561) 822-2075.

One rule surprises people: contractors must remove the yard waste they create, and the property owner may be assessed up to $350 if they do not. If a crew cleared your yard and left the pile, or a storm left more than one pile's worth, Rapid Haul can load it and take it to SWA for one flat price.

Decks, fences and older-home tear-outs

Because the City refuses decks, wood fencing and concrete at the curb, those jobs always need a hauler. Rapid Haul tears out and hauls wood decks (from $550), removes old fences, takes down sheds (from $350), and pulls non-structural interiors: kitchens, baths, flooring and drywall (room tear-outs from $750). Never anything that holds up the house. Leftover remodel debris starts at $200.

We could not verify West Palm Beach's building permit office from an official page, so confirm it with the City before work starts. Your GC or you as the owner pull the permit; Rapid Haul does not. Many of the city's neighborhoods date from the 1920s boom, and the City has emphasized revitalization in historic districts such as Northwood, Flamingo Park and El Cid, so ask whether historic review applies to your house too.

The city's housing, from 1920s districts to towers

West Palm Beach is the county seat and largest city in Palm Beach County, incorporated in 1894. Census estimates count about 62,464 homes, a median build year of 1988, and about half owner-occupied. A bit under 4 in 10 are detached houses, and almost a third sit in buildings of 20 or more units. Historic neighborhoods include El Cid, Flamingo Park, Grandview Heights, Old Northwood, Northwood Hills, Prospect Park, Central Park and Northwest, the first West Palm Beach district on the National Register.

That range shows up in the jobs: estate cleanouts priced after photos, house cleanouts in older districts (from $1,000), garages (from $300), furniture down from condo towers (from $125), and appliances (from $100). Condo buildings set their own move and work hours, so include them when you send photos.

How West Palm Beach jobs are priced and booked

Rapid Haul is based in Hollywood and works mostly in Broward and Miami-Dade. West Palm Beach is by request, when the job is worth the drive, so there are no same-day promises. Text photos to (754) 249-1015. Dany answers himself and quotes one flat price for labor, loading, hauling and disposal. Junk removal is paid after the job; jobs of $1,000 and over take a 50% deposit.

If you would rather haul a small load yourself, SWA's Customer Convenience Drop-Off Center at the North County Landfill, 6330 N Jog Road, is open to the public Monday to Saturday, 7 AM to 5 PM. Household chemicals go to the SWA center at 6161 N Jog Road, where Saturday is self-service drop-off only.
