Coral Springs bulk pickup: weekly, but capped

Coral Springs bulk is collected once a week by Coastal, the city's contracted hauler. The cap is 6 cubic yards, and only 2 of those can be construction debris. If a pile goes over, the city says it is not collected. It gets tagged with haul-away instructions instead, and contractors and landscapers have to haul their own over-limit debris.

The set-out rules are specific:

  • Out no earlier than 7 p.m. the night before and no later than 7 a.m.
  • Within five feet of the street, not under trees or power lines
  • No hazardous waste, and no extra garbage bags mixed in
  • Mirrors, glass panels and windowpanes boxed and taped or wrapped in old blankets
  • Yard waste: no single item over 50 lbs, tree trimmings no longer than 5 feet

Old appliances: the Freon rule

Refrigerators and freezers need their doors off and the Freon removed, with proof of removal visible, before the city takes them at the curb. The Transfer Station has the same Freon rule. If you are swapping out a fridge, a freezer in the garage or a washer and dryer, that prep is the hold-up.

Rapid Haul takes appliances out of the kitchen or garage and hauls them away. Appliance removal starts at $100. Have water and gas lines disconnected first, then send Dany a photo.

Mirrors and glass panels are another prep job the city asks for: boxed and taped, or wrapped in old blankets. If you would rather skip that, Rapid Haul takes them as part of the load.

Remodel debris and permits in Coral Springs

Only 2 of the 6 cubic yards at the curb can be construction debris, and the city tags anything over the limit. A kitchen or bath tear-out usually needs a hauler.

The City of Coral Springs Building Department, at 9500 West Sample Rd, issues permits through eTRAKiT or the One-Stop-Shop. The city's permit FAQ says a permit is required to construct, alter, repair, remove or demolish any building, structure or part of one. Your GC or you as the owner pull it. Rapid Haul does non-structural tear-out (kitchens, baths, flooring and interior walls, never anything that holds up the house) and hauls the debris. Room tear-outs start at $750, and hauling a remodeler's leftover debris starts at $200.

A planned city with full garages

Coral Springs was chartered in 1963 as a planned city, grew by more than 35,000 people in each of the 1970s, 80s and 90s, and was fully built out by 2003. Households average about three people, 60% of homes are owner-occupied, and the city is known for strictly enforcing rules on things like exterior colors and RV and boat storage.

Most Coral Springs calls are garage cleanouts (from $300), furniture swaps (from $125), appliances (from $100) and, when the kids are grown or a parent moves, full house cleanouts (from $1,000).

Booking from Hollywood, and the do-it-yourself option

Rapid Haul is based in Hollywood and Coral Springs is in the regular Broward service area. Text (754) 249-1015 with a photo and Dany sends one flat price: labor, loading, hauling and disposal. Same-day is often possible when you call early. Junk removal is paid after the job.

If you would rather haul it yourself, the city's Waste Transfer Station at 12600 Wiles Road is free for residents with ID and proof of address, open Saturdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays 12 to 5 p.m. Limits are one visit a day, 6 cubic yards of bulk or yard waste, 2 tires per household, and up to 2 yards per day of household construction and demolition material. Moving trucks and landscape trucks are turned away. Coral Springs is not on Broward County's drop-off list for bulk, so the county centers are not an option.

Coral Springs: common questions

Something else on your mind? Call (754) 249-1015.

What happens if my Coral Springs bulk pile is over 6 cubic yards?

The city says it is not collected. It is tagged with haul-away instructions. Trim it down, take it to the Transfer Station, or have Rapid Haul take the whole pile.

Will the city take my old refrigerator?

Yes, at the curb, if the doors are off and the Freon is removed with proof visible. Rapid Haul takes appliances from $100.

Can I use a rented moving truck at the Transfer Station?

No. The city prohibits commercial vehicles, including moving and landscape trucks, even if the business is in Coral Springs.

How much bathroom debris can go out with bulk?

Only 2 of the 6 cubic yards can be construction debris. A full bathroom tear-out usually needs a hauler. Debris hauling starts at $200.

Where do paint and chemicals go?

Not to the curb or the Transfer Station. The city runs special household hazardous waste collection days, and residents can use the regional events Coconut Creek lists.
