Hialeah's bulk pickup comes once a month

Hialeah contracts its trash collection to Progressive Waste Solutions (the city FAQ also lists Waste Connections at the same number, 305-638-3800). For solid waste problems, the city's own line is 305-687-2630.

Bulk pickup is once a month. The city's bulk waste map splits Hialeah into zones, each assigned a week and weekday, like the 1st Monday or the 2nd Thursday. If you just missed your day, the next one is about a month away. The city pages do not publish a bulk size limit or yard waste rules, so check before you pile up a lot.

A month is a long time to live with a sofa on the swale, and too long when an apartment has to be empty for the next tenant. Dany picks it up when you need it gone, loaded from wherever it sits.

Tear-out debris is not the city's job

The city FAQ is direct: Hialeah will not remove or haul away discarded construction materials. Old cabinets, countertops, tile, drywall and fixtures from a remodel need a hauler or a trip to a disposal site.

Permits come from the City of Hialeah Building Department, which administers the Florida Building Code and reviews and issues permits, at 501 Palm Avenue, 305-883-5825. The GC or the property owner pulls the permit. Rapid Haul does not. Dany does the non-structural tear-out (kitchens, bathrooms, flooring, drywall) and hauls every piece of it.

Room demo starts at $750 and construction debris hauling at $200. If your own crew is doing the tear-out, Dany can just pick up the pile they leave.

Where Hialeah debris can go

If you want to haul it yourself, the city's Disposal Sites page lists these options for construction debris and home chemicals:

The Home Chemical Collection Center is open Wednesday to Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., (305) 468-5900. The North Dade Landfill opens at 7:00 a.m. and closes at 5:00 p.m. For a remodel, loading, driving and unloading it all yourself is a full day. Or text Dany one photo and let him do it.

  • Miami-Dade County North Dade Landfill, 21500 NW 47th Avenue, Opa-locka, (305) 594-1500
  • Miami-Dade County Home Chemical Collection Center, 8801 NW 58th St, Doral, for oil-based paints, pool chemicals, pesticides, solvents and propane tanks
  • Progressive Waste / Waste Connections Transfer Station, 3680 NW 135th Street, Opa-locka, for construction debris, asphalt and wooden fencing
  • Waste Management Hialeah Transfer Station, 5000 NW 37th Ave, Miami, for construction materials, yard debris and wooden fencing

Older homes and big apartment buildings

Hialeah has about 79,130 housing units, and Census estimates put the median year built at 1975. Only 46.6% are owner-occupied, 38.0% are single-family detached houses, and 27.3% sit in buildings of 20 or more units. The city even has its own street grid, numbered separately from the rest of the county.

That mix shapes the work. In houses that age, a kitchen or bathroom remodel leaves tear-out debris the city will not touch. Apartments and condos turn over, and landlords need units emptied between tenants.

One thing to watch: the transfer stations require residents to wear a hard hat, safety shoes and a safety vest before entering. Most people would rather not.
