Junk removal in West Miami, for the loads the city's per-item bulk fees make expensive
Furniture, appliance and whole-house cleanouts in West Miami, plus non-structural tear-out and debris hauling. Text Dany a photo for one flat, all-in price.
01What West Miami's own sanitation crew picks up, and what it charges
West Miami runs its own trash service. The city's Sanitation Division collects waste on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, keeps collecting on holidays (Christmas Day included), and picks up recycling every other Monday. Miami-Dade County's solid waste department does not serve the city, so the county's bulky pickup rules you may have read about do not apply here.
The free part of the city's bulk program is small. Each household gets 5 cubic feet of free bulk pickup three times a year, and it covers yard debris only, not furniture. After that, the city charges by the piece. These are the fees as the city's sanitation page quotes them:
- Yard debris past the free pickups: $14 per cubic foot
- Furniture and similar items: $40 per item
- Big appliances, heavy sofas, king or queen mattresses and large BBQs: $50 each
- Bulk goes on the swale the day before your regular pickup day, never earlier
- Rocks, dirt, tile, construction or demolition debris, liquids, batteries, propane tanks and household chemicals stay out of the bin
02When the per-item fee stops making sense
For one chair or a single mattress, the city is the simple answer. Call the Sanitation Division at (305) 266-1122, set it on the swale the day before, and it goes on your regular day.
The math changes with a full room. A bedroom set, a sofa, a recliner and a washer add up piece by piece at $40 and $50 each, and every piece still has to be carried out to the swale by you. Rapid Haul's furniture removal starts at $125 and appliance removal at $100, and Dany's crew carries everything out from wherever it sits. For a garage, a whole house or a move-out, send a photo and compare his one flat price against the city's per-item total before you decide.
There is also no county fallback. Miami-Dade's Neighborhood Trash and Recycling Centers are limited to unincorporated residents and ten listed cities, and West Miami is not one of them. The city's sanitation page does not mention a drop-off site of its own.

03Tile, cabinets and remodel debris in West Miami
Remodel waste is where the city's service ends completely. Tile and construction or demolition debris are on the list of things the city will not take, so a bathroom or kitchen tear-out here always needs a hauler.
Permits come from the City of West Miami Building Department at 901 SW 62 Avenue (305-266-4214), not the county. The city's building application lists demolition as a permit category; current demolition requirements are not posted where we could check them, so ask the department what your job needs. Your general contractor or you as the owner pulls the permit. Rapid Haul does not.
What Dany does is the non-structural tear-out and the haul: vanities, cabinets, counters, tile, flooring and drywall. Nothing that holds the house up. Room demo starts at $750. If your crew already tore it out, debris hauling starts at $200 and the pile leaves the same visit.
04An older, compact city between Tamiami Trail and Coral Way
West Miami incorporated on April 7, 1947, as a town of about 700 people. It sits between Tamiami Trail and Coral Way, with the City of Miami (including Flagami) to the north, Coral Gables to the east and unincorporated Coral Terrace to the south and west. The 2020 Census counted 7,233 residents and 3,292 housing units.
That same count put rental vacancy at 16.2%, against 1.0% for homeowners. Rentals turning over means move-out cleanouts: a unit emptied between tenants, with the furniture, appliances and leftover boxes all going at once. For landlords, a single flat price for the whole unit is usually easier than paying the city item by item and waiting for the next pickup day.

West Miami: common questions
Something else on your mind? Call (754) 249-1015.
Does West Miami pick up furniture for free?
No. The city's free bulk is 5 cubic feet three times a year and covers yard debris only. Furniture is $40 per item, and big appliances, heavy sofas and king or queen mattresses are $50 each.
Can I take my junk to a Miami-Dade drop-off center?
The county's Trash and Recycling Centers are limited to unincorporated residents and ten listed cities, and West Miami is not on that list. The city's sanitation page does not name a drop-off site either.
Will the city take the tile from my bathroom remodel?
No. Tile and construction or demolition debris are excluded from city collection. Rapid Haul hauls remodel debris from $200, or does the non-structural tear-out and the haul together from $750.
Who issues demolition permits in West Miami?
The City of West Miami Building Department at 901 SW 62 Avenue, phone 305-266-4214. Your general contractor or you as the owner pulls the permit; Rapid Haul does the tear-out and hauling only.
