Weston's quarterly bulk pickup and the months in between

Weston residents get four bulk trash collections a year, made by Republic Services, the City's garbage and recycling provider. Pickup happens in January, April, July and October. Since June 3, 2024, the city has been split into smaller sections, each with its own bulk day that month, which you look up on the City's Solid Waste Collection Schedule map.

On your day, bulk goes where your garbage cart usually sits by 7 a.m., with three feet of clearance on each side of the cart and away from trees, mailboxes and cars. Republic takes furniture, mattresses, carpets, dishwashers, laundry machines and stoves. Refrigerators and air conditioners need the Freon removed by a certified dealer first, and mirrors and glass have to be wrapped or boxed. Homeowner yard waste is fine; landscaper waste is not.

Bulk will not take contractor-generated material, household hazardous waste, TVs or other electronics. If you need something gone in February, Republic will schedule a separate pickup for an extra fee, or you can call Dany.

Remodels, tear-outs and permits in Weston

Permits in Weston come from the City's Building Code Services Department, which enforces the Florida Building Code and Broward County regulations. Applications go through the ePermits portal, and the office is at the Administrative Services Center, 17250 Royal Palm Boulevard. Your general contractor, or you as the owner, pulls the permit. Rapid Haul does not.

Dany's part is the non-structural tear-out and the haul: kitchen cabinets and counters, bathroom tile and vanities, flooring, a shed or a hot tub out back. Never anything that holds up the house. Room demo starts at $750, shed removal at $350.

One more thing to know: the City's fee schedule calls Republic Services its exclusive solid waste contractor. If your job is debris from a permitted demolition, it may have to go through the City's franchise hauler. Dany will tell you what applies before you book, and he will not try to work around it.

A master-planned city of HOA neighborhoods

Weston is a master-planned city, incorporated in 1996. Most of it was developed by Arvida as Indian Trace, with the first homes finished in 1984 in Country Isles and Windmill Ranch. The city has two development districts, Bonaventure and Indian Trace, and its western edge sits next to the Everglades.

It had 68,107 people in the 2020 Census. Census survey data shows 73.0% of homes owner-occupied, a median home value of $695,600 and 3.16 people per household. Larger households in owner-occupied homes tend to mean full garages and bedrooms turned over as kids move out, and the oldest Arvida homes are now four decades old.
