What Miramar's monthly bulk pickup takes, and what it refuses

Miramar has a franchise agreement with Waste Pro of Florida for all residential and commercial waste collection. Bulk trash is picked up 12 times a year, once a month on your scheduled day, between 7AM and 7PM. Piles can go out no more than 7 days before that day, within 3 feet of the street and clear of mailboxes, fences, hydrants and trees.

Monthly bulk does take a lot: furniture, mattresses, Freon-free appliances, carpet and padding, and lumber and fencing cut no longer than six feet. Bags must weigh 50 pounds or less. What it will not take is the heavy part of a remodel:

• Tile, concrete, bricks and stones
• Roofing material
• Tires, auto parts, batteries, used oil and paint
• Electronics and hazardous waste
• Anything set out in front of a vacant lot or home

Remodel debris, permits and Waste Pro in Miramar

Permits in Miramar come from the City of Miramar Building Division at 2200 Civic Center Place, through the city's online portal. Its application packages include a Demolition package and a Construction Debris and Demolition Affidavit. Your GC or you as the owner pull the permit. Rapid Haul does not.

The city will collect "Up to 3 cubic yards of Contractor Generated waste" at the curb, and only when an active City permit has been issued to the property. Debris from work done without a City permit is not collected. Because Miramar's Waste Pro franchise covers all residential and commercial waste collection, debris from permitted demolition here may have to go through the city's franchise hauler. Where Rapid Haul fits: the non-structural tear-out itself, and the junk, furniture and cleanout loads that come with a remodel. Bathroom tile, kitchen cabinets, flooring and interior partition walls come out, and the room is left broom-clean.

Two kinds of Miramar homes

Miramar has about 134,721 people and 45,029 households, and 68.8% of homes are owner-occupied. The median owner-occupied home value is $462,700, and households average 3.07 people.

The east end has the original 1950s and 1960s single-family houses on conventional streets, many without an association. Those homes are where bathroom and kitchen tear-outs come up, and where tile is the first thing the monthly bulk pickup refuses. West of I-75 are the master-planned communities from the late 1990s on, such as Monarch Lakes, Silver Shores, Vizcaya, Riviera Isles and Sunset Lakes. Those are association-governed, so check your association's rules as well as the city's before a pile goes out.

How pricing works from Hollywood

Rapid Haul is based in Hollywood, right next door, and Miramar is in the regular Broward service area. Text a photo to (754) 249-1015 and Dany sends one flat price: labor, loading, hauling and disposal. Call early and same-day pickup is often possible, Monday to Saturday, 7 AM to 7 PM.

If you miss your monthly date, the city's options are a paid special pickup through Waste Pro or a trip to the Broward County Landfill on SW 205th Avenue, open 8a to 4p for Broward residents at $10 per vehicle. Rapid Haul is the option where someone else does the loading.
