Junk removal in Ives Estates, on the Miami-Dade side of the county line
Junk removal, mattress pickup and tear-out debris hauling in Ives Estates. Send Dany a photo and get one flat, all-in price, usually the same day.
01No city hall here: the county sets the trash rules
Ives Estates is an unincorporated census-designated place, so there is no city government and no city trash service. Miami-Dade County's Department of Solid Waste Management collects, and you pay for it through the annual waste service fee on your tax bill. Waste goes in the standard 96-gallon green cart twice a week, out by 7 a.m. within 3 ft. of the street, and recycling goes every other week.
Large items never go in the cart. The county says no furniture or appliances in it, and no rocks, dirt, tile, construction or demolition debris, car batteries, propane tanks or household chemicals. Bigger things wait for a bulky pickup: "two bulky waste pickups of up to 25 cubic yards each" a year. Duplex owners can "combine up to four bulky waste pickups into 1 pickup of up to 100 cubic yards".
- Book the bulky pickup first, by 311, online or on the MDC Solid Waste App, then set out
- Cancel at least 2 days before the appointment, or you lose it
- Leave a 15-foot clearance from the ground to the lowest branch or power line
- Mattresses fully encased in plastic and taped; fridge and freezer doors removed
- Tree limbs in the pile no more than five feet long
02Tear-outs and permits in unincorporated Miami-Dade
Because there is no city, building and demolition permits for Ives Estates come from Miami-Dade County's Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources (RER), Building. The county permits page has a demolition entry for residential and commercial work, with different requirements for attached and detached structures, and applications go through the RER online submittal portal. Your GC or you as the owner pull the permit. Rapid Haul does not.
Rapid Haul does the non-structural tear-out (cabinets, tile, flooring, fixtures, interior partition walls) and hauls it away. The county allows construction and demolition materials on a bulky pickup of "no more than 3 cubic yard," and its drop-off centers limit it to three (3) cubic yards per customer per day. A bathroom or kitchen tear-out runs well past that, and the county lists hiring a private hauler as one of the options.

03On the Broward line, along Ives Dairy Road
Ives Estates covers about 2.76 square miles in northeastern Miami-Dade and is entirely urban, with about 25,005 people in 9,889 housing units at the 2020 count. Ives Dairy Road runs through the center, and I-95 forms the eastern edge.
The Broward County line is the northern edge, with West Park and Pembroke Park across it. That matters for junk: the house across the line in Broward follows its own city's rules, while every Ives Estates address follows the county's. Rapid Haul works both sides, so one call covers you either way. Rental vacancy was 7.9% in 2020, and when a rental turns over, the mattresses, bed frames and furniture left behind have to be gone before the next tenant moves in.

Who picks up bulky trash in Ives Estates?
Miami-Dade County's Department of Solid Waste Management, because Ives Estates is unincorporated. Each household gets two booked bulky pickups a year.
How do I put a mattress out for pickup?
On a booked bulky pickup, fully encased in plastic and taped, no more than three days before the appointment. Or Rapid Haul takes it straight from the bedroom, with furniture removal starting at $125.
What if my pile is bigger than the county allows?
The county gives three options: take the extra to a Trash and Recycling Center, request a for-fee pickup with a signed Excess Yardage Approval form, or hire a private hauler. Rapid Haul is the third option, priced flat from a photo.
Which drop-off centers are closest to Ives Estates?
