Davie's monthly bulk pickup, and when it isn't enough

Coastal Waste & Recycling has handled all of Davie's solid waste and recycling since June 1, 2021. Garbage goes twice a week, on days set by which side of Flamingo Road and Pine Island Road you live on. Bulk is once a month, on a date you can look up with the Town's Bulk Trash Locator. Condo and multifamily buildings with dumpsters get bulk quarterly.

The Town's rules are clear. Bulk should not exceed 15 cubic yards. Pickup can come anytime from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on your date, and you can only set the pile out from the Sunday before. Furniture, mattresses, carpet, appliances and household items are fine. Refrigerators and AC units need the Freon removed by a certified dealer first. Mirrors and glass go in a rigid container, taped. Tree limbs and trunks must be under five feet and 75 pounds, and bagged leaves under 50 pounds. Extra bulk is billed per yard.

Sheds, fences and tear-outs: Davie permits and the debris

Permits come from the Town of Davie Building Division at 8800 SW 36th Street, Building A (954-797-1111), submitted online through the Town's ProjectDox system. The Town publishes its own demolition checklist, which includes asbestos notification to Broward County and utility disconnect letters for a full-structure demolition.

Your GC or you as the owner pull the permit. Rapid Haul does non-structural tear-out and the haul: sheds, decks, fences, and interior rooms down to the studs. Never anything that holds up the house.

The curb rules make the haul matter. Tile, roofing material, rock and other earthen material can only go out in a hard-bottom container. A shed or a gutted bathroom produces exactly that kind of load. Shed Removal starts at $350, Deck Demolition at $550, and Interior Demolition at $750 a room.

Ranch lots in the west, subdivisions in the east

Davie covers about 35 square miles. An FDOT study describes the western part of Town as more rural, with equestrian trails and large open tracts, and horseback riding is common, with ranches among its older properties. The east side holds Nova Southeastern University and the South Florida Education Center campuses, and HOA communities are part of the Town too.

About 67% of homes are owner-occupied, with a median value around $462,900 (Census, 2020 to 2024). That mix gives Davie its jobs: sheds, fence lines and overgrown yards on the big lots, garages and storage units in the subdivisions, and full houses cleared before a sale.
