What the customer needed
This backyard had an old box-truck body, the kind people call a U-Haul trailer, being used as a shed. Everything inside had to be gone, and then the whole thing had to come down, bottom and all, and leave the property.
There was also a smaller shed staying behind. The customer had two engines he wanted moved from the big one into the small one before we started tearing anything down.
Day one: the clean-out
We bagged everything inside. While I made a run for saw blades, the crew kept clearing. Then came the engines. In my words, "they each weigh like a thousand something pounds," and moving both into the little shed took us about an hour, hour and a half.
By the end of the day the box was empty and we had a pile of scrap metal we had pulled out of it, ready to go.
The tear-down
Part two was demolition. The left side was already cut out. The crew cut and pried out the right side, then carried the pieces out to the trailer for the dump. We braced the roof while we worked, and once the brace came out the roof came down. My brother broke down the top half, and we cut it into pieces we could load.
The metal pieces at the bottom were the hardest part. The screws would not back out because they had nothing to grip against, so we had to bang the metal until they caught. We found a way.
How it ended
When we were done there was bare dirt where the box stood, and the yard was clear. The customer was happy, and the whole job took us three days.
