What Miami-Dade bulky pickup covers in Kendall West

Kendall West is unincorporated, so the Miami-Dade Department of Solid Waste Management (DSWM) collects. Garbage goes out twice a week in the green cart, either Monday and Thursday or Tuesday and Friday. Some communities get dumpster service instead. There, the county says furniture and appliances should not go in the dumpsters or be left in the enclosures, and should go to a Trash and Recycling Center.

For bulky items, each household gets two scheduled pickups per calendar year of up to 25 cubic yards each. You can combine them into one pickup of up to 50 cubic yards, but a single pickup over 25 cubic yards uses up the whole year's allowance. If you authorize collection of extra, the 2025 guide lists a fee of $31 per cubic yard.

The curb rules matter here:

• Book through 311 or miamidade.gov/bulkywaste before anything goes out
• Nothing at the curb more than 3 days early; early piles can draw a warning or a civil citation
• No home chemicals, no rock and dirt, no single item over 150 lbs
• No more than three cubic yards of construction and demolition debris
• Refrigerator and freezer doors removed
• Piles at least five feet from cars, fences, mailboxes, drains, poles, hydrants and sprinklers
• Tree limbs no longer than five feet

When a private haul makes more sense

The county system works well for one couch or a spring clean-out you planned weeks ahead. It gets tight when you have already used both pickups, when you are moving out this weekend, or when the pile includes something over 150 lbs. Remodel debris is the usual problem: the curb takes three cubic yards of it, and a kitchen tear-out fills that fast.

Drop-off centers if you haul it yourself

Miami-Dade Trash and Recycling Centers take household trash, tree and yard cuttings, and construction and demolition debris limited to three cubic yards per customer per day. Most also take up to four standard tires and white goods. Food waste is not allowed. They are open daily, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and you need a valid Florida driver's license or ID that matches a residential waste fee account. Vans over 11,000 lb GVW, pickups over 15,000 lb GVW and trailers larger than 10 x 6 x 6 feet are turned away.

The closest centers on the county list are Sunset Kendall at 8000 SW 107 Avenue and Snapper Creek at 2200 SW 117 Avenue. Richmond Heights, at 14050 Boggs Drive, takes no white goods or mattresses, so check before you load. Paint, chemicals and electronics go to the Home Chemical Collection Centers: West Dade at 8801 NW 58 Street or South Dade at 23707 SW 97 Avenue, Gate B, open Wednesday to Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Tear-outs and permits in Kendall West

There is no city building department here. Permits come from Miami-Dade County's Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources (RER), Building. The county permits page says demolition of residential or commercial structures requires a set list of items, using the Building Permit Application. Commercial demolitions also need asbestos review by the Division of Environmental Resources Management. Applications can be filed at the Herbert S. Saffir Permitting and Inspection Center.

Kendall West had 36,536 people and 12,819 housing units in 2020, with only 3.7% vacant. Of its 12,350 households, 47.4% were married couples. It sits west of Florida's Turnpike, about 17 miles west-southwest of downtown Miami, with Kendale Lakes to the east and The Hammocks to the south.
