Doral's county bulky pickup: two appointments a year

Doral is one of the cities Miami-Dade's Department of Solid Waste Management collects for. Garbage goes twice a week. Bulky waste and yard debris are by appointment only, and each household gets two bulky pickups a year of up to 25 cubic yards each. The county brochure says the two can be combined into one pickup of up to 50 cubic yards, but a pile over 25 cubic yards uses up your next appointment.

You have to book first, at miamidade.gov/bulkywaste, on the MDC Solid Waste app or by calling 311. Appointments open 30 days ahead. The pile can go out no more than 3 days before the date and must be there by 7 a.m. Since April 1, 2023, an early pile can bring anything from a warning notice up to a civil citation.

The county brochure lists sofas, mattresses sealed in a plastic bag, large tree limbs and branches, and other household trash. A full house or garage cleanout can burn a whole year's allowance in one pile. When that happens, or when you cannot wait for an open slot, a hauler is the practical option.

Townhomes, condos and the private-hauler question

The county describes Doral's housing as largely multifamily, including condominiums and townhomes, with remaining areas of single-family neighborhoods. Its summary also notes that multifamily properties over five units are typically served by private haulers, not the county's curbside bulky service. In practice, if you live in a larger condo community, the county appointment may not be an option for you at all.

Doral has about 28,000 housing units, and early growth in the 1980s was mostly investment properties and second homes. Demolition permits in Doral and what Rapid Haul does

Demolition permits come from the City of Doral Building Department, 8401 NW 53rd Terrace, 2nd floor (305-593-6700), and applications go through the City's online CSS portal. The City's demolition checklist asks for a Miami-Dade County approved Notice of Demolition or asbestos renovation form, a notarized letter that all utilities have been notified, and sub-permits for a temporary fence and dust screen and for plumbing caps.

Self-hauling to a county center

Doral residents can use Miami-Dade's 13 Neighborhood Trash and Recycling Centers with a Florida driver's license or ID that matches an eligible account. They are open 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily, closed on MLK Day, Independence Day and Christmas. No center sits inside Doral; listed centers in the northwest part of the county include Snapper Creek (2200 SW 117 Avenue), West Little River (1830 NW 79th Street) and Palm Springs North (7870 NW 178th Street, Hialeah).

Construction and demolition debris is limited to three cubic yards (a pile no larger than 6 green 96-gallon carts) per customer per day, food garbage is not allowed, and oversize vehicles and trailers are turned away. A real kitchen or bath tear-out is usually more than that.
