Deerfield Beach's weekly bulk: free up to a point

Deerfield Beach runs its own trash service. The city is the sole provider of curbside garbage service for homes in the city, including cart pickup, bulk pickup and roll-offs, and city code makes that exclusive. Bulk is collected every week, and you look up your day with DFB Waste Watch.

The free weekly pile is capped: "Only place out bulk waste piles that do not exceed 7 cubic yards (approx. 4ft x 8ft x 6ft)." Bulk goes out before 7 AM on your collection day and not more than 24 hours ahead. A pile that breaks the rules gets tagged, and if it is not fixed within 24 hours the city collects it and sends an invoice.

What counts as bulk is broad: yard debris, large packaging, furniture, mattresses, and appliances with the doors or locks removed. Propane tanks, gasoline tanks and other hazardous materials do not go out with bulk.

The city charges extra for:

  • Bulk piles larger than 7 cubic yards
  • Debris generated by private landscapers
  • Construction debris and wood products
  • Construction debris mixed into bulk yard waste (special pickup with a dump fee)

Kitchen and bath tear-outs and permits

Permits come from City of Deerfield Beach Building Services at 150 NE 2nd Ave, 954-250-4060. The city contracts its Florida Building Code work to CAP Government, which handles permit applications, plan approvals, inspections and close-out, with online submittal since December 15, 2025. The city's demolition checklist includes asbestos notification, utility disconnect letters, a sewer cap permit, a dust-control letter and a Deerfield Beach HOA Affidavit. Your GC or you as the owner pull the permit. Rapid Haul does not.

Rapid Haul does the non-structural tear-out: cabinets, counters, tile, flooring, fixtures and interior partition walls. Because the city is the exclusive provider of residential collection, including roll-off service, debris from permitted demolition here may have to go through the city. Dany will tell you what applies to your job before you book, and he will not quote around it.

Older neighborhoods, the beach island and long-time owners

Deerfield Beach has about 86,859 people in 36,441 households, and 63.9% of homes are owner-occupied at a median value of $309,600. Nearly a quarter of residents (22.7%) are 65 or older. The city grew fastest between 1950 and 1980, and some of its oldest buildings are 1920s Spanish Mediterranean Revival.

That mix points to two kinds of jobs. One is the remodel of a kitchen or bath that has not been touched since the house was built. The other is a cleanout when a long-time owner moves or a family settles an estate, where the volume blows well past one free weekly pile. East of the Intracoastal is Deerfield Beach Island with the beach and the fishing pier, and the city's demolition checklist asks for an HOA affidavit, so association rules are part of many jobs here.

Deerfield Beach: common questions

Something else on your mind? Call (754) 249-1015.

How big can my bulk pile be in Deerfield Beach?

The free weekly pile is capped at 7 cubic yards (approx. 4ft x 8ft x 6ft), per the city. Bigger piles carry an extra fee, and a tagged pile left unfixed for 24 hours is collected and invoiced.

Can I drop off junk myself?

The city's Recycling Drop-Off Center at 401 SW 4th Street takes "up to 2 cubic yards of bulk or small items" from residents, once a week, with proof of residency, and you unload it yourself. It suits a toilet, a washer or a few doors, not a whole house.

Will the city haul my kitchen remodel debris for free?

No. Construction debris and wood products carry an additional fee. Because the city is the exclusive residential provider, Dany will tell you before booking whether debris from your permitted job has to go through the city.

Who handles demolition permits in Deerfield Beach?

City of Deerfield Beach Building Services, with CAP Government handling the Florida Building Code work. Your GC or you as the owner pull the permit.

How fast can you come?
