Lake Worth Beach runs its own sanitation, with bulk once a month

Trash, recycling and bulk in Lake Worth Beach are handled by the city itself, through the City of Lake Worth Beach Solid Waste & Recycling Division (561-533-7344). You pay a fixed yearly fee on the tax roll, and the service includes once a month bulk waste collection.

Yard waste has a firm cap. In the city's words, each property may set out a maximum of one 4 cubic yard pile of yard waste on its service day, in addition to its green cart, and branches must be cut to no more than 4 feet long or 50 lbs. We could not confirm the city's bulk volume limit, set-out timing or refused items from an official page, so ask the division before you build a pile.

Where a hauler makes sense here: a whole-house cleanout that would take months of monthly bulk days, a backyard cleared all at once instead of one capped pile a week, or a remodel that cannot wait for the schedule.

Tear-outs, permits and the historic districts

We could not verify which office issues building permits in Lake Worth Beach, because the city's site blocked our research. Call the city before a tear-out starts. It matters more here than in most towns: the city considers six areas historic districts (College Park, Northeast Lucerne, Old Lucerne, Old Town, Southeast Lucerne and South Palm Park), so ask whether historic rules apply to your house as well.

Older houses, apartments and condos

Lake Worth Beach is about 17,949 homes by census estimate, with a median build year of 1969. Just under half are detached single-family houses, about 1 in 8 sits in a building of 20 or more units, and 45.9% are owner-occupied. In College Park, most homes were built between 1925 and 1949. The 1960s and 1970s brought many apartments, condominiums and larger commercial buildings.

Those houses drive most of the work: original bathrooms and kitchens coming out before a remodel, estate cleanouts in homes held for decades, garages and sheds packed full, and overgrown yards. Apartment and condo turnovers bring furniture, mattresses and appliances. House cleanouts start at $1,000, garage cleanouts at $300, furniture at $125 and appliances at $100.

Junk removal is paid after the job; jobs of $1,000 and over take a 50% deposit. If you are hauling a small load yourself, the nearest SWA sites are the Central County Transfer Station and the Home Chemical & Recycling Center at 1810 Lantana Road. The transfer station weighs vehicles for tipping fees and closes at noon on Saturdays.
