Ocean Ridge's curbside schedule, and the gap on bulk items

The Town of Ocean Ridge contracts its pickup to WastePro Services of Palm Beach, and bills residents once a year for it, separate from the county tax assessment disposal fee; billing is now through the Town's online portal. Per the Town's New Resident booklet, garbage goes Tuesday and Friday, yard trash and vegetation Tuesday, and recycling Friday. All pickups are curbside, and garbage or recycling can go out no more than 12 hours ahead.

Yard trash has its own rules: it must be bundled or containerized, free of sand or dirt and not mixed with regular trash, and loose clippings are not taken. It goes out no sooner than 36 hours before pickup, or the Sunday prior.

What the booklet does not cover is furniture and appliances. We could not find the Town's bulk rules, limits or refused items. The Town tells residents to call WastePro at 561-688-8912 with questions about any item. If the answer is no, or you are clearing a whole unit, that is the job for a hauler.

Tear-outs and permits on a built-out island

The Town's comprehensive plan says the great majority of its land is built out, so the primary concern is redevelopment. In practice that means remodels: kitchens, baths and floors coming out of homes and condo units built decades ago.

Permits go through the Town of Ocean Ridge Building Department at 6450 N Ocean Blvd (permit@oceanridge.gov, 561-732-2635). The Town says it handles all building permit applications. Your GC or you as the owner pull the permit; Rapid Haul does not. Dany's crew does the non-structural tear-out (cabinets, tile, flooring, vanities, drywall) and hauls the debris off the island. Never anything that holds up the building. Condo buildings often set their own work hours and elevator rules, so send those along with your photos.

Homes between the ocean and the Intracoastal

Ocean Ridge covers about 635.6 acres, entirely on the barrier island, with the Atlantic to the east and the Intracoastal Waterway to the west. Census estimates count about 1,601 homes, a median build year of 1974, and 83% owner-occupied. About 40% are detached houses, and almost a quarter sit in buildings of 20 or more units: the Town's plan notes Intracoastal and beachfront condominium and cooperative buildings scattered throughout. Single-family land is capped at three dwelling units per acre.

So the jobs here are a mix: a condo gutted before a renovation, a 1970s house cleared before a sale, patio furniture and old appliances, and furniture that has to come down an elevator. Room tear-outs start at $750, furniture removal at $125, appliances at $100 and full house cleanouts at $1,000.

The town borders Boynton Beach to the west across the Intracoastal, Briny Breezes to the south and Manalapan to the north. If you also have a load waiting in one of those towns, tell Dany when you text; two stops on one trip can make the drive worth it.

How an Ocean Ridge job works from Hollywood

Rapid Haul is based in Hollywood and works mostly in Broward and Miami-Dade. Ocean Ridge is by request, when the job is worth the drive, and there are no same-day promises in Palm Beach County. Text photos to (754) 249-1015 and Dany will tell you plainly whether he can take it and when.

One flat price covers labor, loading, hauling and disposal. Junk removal is paid after the job, and jobs of $1,000 and over take a 50% deposit. For small loads you haul yourself, the nearest SWA sites by address are the Central County Transfer Station at 1810 Lantana Road and the South County Transfer Station and Home Chemical & Recycling Center at 1901 SW 4th Ave in Delray Beach. Transfer stations weigh vehicles to set tipping fees.
