Lantana bulk pickup: once a week, by side of town

Coastal Waste and Recycling has been the Town of Lantana's hauler since October 1, 2023. Bulk, which the Town calls trash/bulk items, is picked up only once a week, and vegetation goes on a different day, so keep the two piles apart:

• North side of W Pine Street, all streets west of 14th Street and all of Hypoluxo Island: vegetation Monday, bulk Thursday
• South side of West Pine Street: vegetation Tuesday, bulk Friday
• No pickup on Thanksgiving or Christmas; it moves to the next scheduled day

Remodel debris can't go to the curb in Lantana

This is the rule that matters for any project here. Coastal's Lantana page says that if you have remodeling, building or contractor generated material, even at your home, it cannot be left at the curb, and you need a commercial open-top roll-off container. Bulk volume limits and the item list for regular bulk are not published, so ask Coastal or the Town's Public Services Department (561-540-5751) about anything unusual.

Tear-outs and the Lantana demolition checklist

The Town of Lantana Building Division, at 504 Greynolds Circle, lists demolitions among the projects that need a permit, and it publishes a Demolition Checklist. Your GC or you as the owner pull the permit. The checklist asks for:

• The type of demolition (full, partial, exploratory)
• Contractor registration or an Owner Builder Affidavit, plus a survey and demolition plan
• The Town's Asbestos Notification Statement
• Where they apply: FPL and gas disconnect letters, A/C refrigerant removal, a water source for dust control
• A separate tree removal permit if landscaping comes out with the demolition
• Payment by cash or check only, due at submittal

Old Lantana, Hypoluxo Island and the lagoon

Lantana was incorporated in 1921, and its founder's 1889 home still stands on East Ocean Avenue as a restaurant. The town covers the northern two-thirds of Hypoluxo Island, with the rest belonging to Manalapan, and a good share of its area is water along the Lake Worth Lagoon. Of 5,659 homes counted in 2020, 17.8% were vacant, and the rental vacancy rate was 16.8%.

For older homes, rentals and places changing hands, Rapid Haul does the non-structural tear-out (kitchens, baths, flooring, drywall) and the haul, from $750 for a room. It also takes house cleanouts from $1,000, garage cleanouts from $300, furniture from $125 and appliances from $100.

How Palm Beach County jobs work

Rapid Haul is based in Hollywood. Broward and Miami-Dade are the main area, and Palm Beach County is by request, when the job is worth the drive. So the best Lantana jobs to call about are the bigger ones: a full cleanout, a remodel tear-out, a load of debris. For small loads you can haul yourself, the SWA Central County Transfer Station is right in town at 1810 Lantana Road, with loads weighed for tipping fees. Its Home Chemical and Recycling Center takes household chemicals, households only, and closes at noon on Saturdays.
