Boynton Beach curbside limits: 3 cubic yards of bulk, one cubic yard of tear-out

Boynton Beach collects its own trash. Public Works handles residential refuse inside city limits, and the number for questions is 561-742-6200, option 1.

Bulk (furniture, appliances, mattresses) is capped at 3 cubic yards a week. Construction and demolition material has a much tighter cap: fencing, kitchen cabinets, carpet and tile are limited to one cubic yard a week. Small glass panels, mirrors and shower doors have to be broken, bagged and boxed. Tile, concrete and bricks never go in the garbage can.

Set-out is after 6 p.m. the night before and before 6 a.m. on collection day, with 3 feet of space around each pile and away from mailboxes, cars and recycling bins. Loose debris gets bagged. Keep vegetation, bulk and construction material in separate piles, because the city treats a mixed pile as a violation.

Vegetation is its own stream: up to 3 cubic yards a week, cut to 4-foot lengths and no more than 4 inches across. The city's 2026 amnesty weeks for extra vegetation run May 4 to 8 and December 7 to 11, with tire amnesty June 1 to 5 and November 30 to December 4.

Kitchen and bath tear-outs: why one cubic yard a week doesn't work

A single kitchen is cabinets, countertops, a sink, maybe tile and flooring. At one cubic yard of construction debris a week, that takes many weeks of set-outs. The city's own answer is to rent a roll-off container (10, 20 or 30 yards, as the city lists them) or a Bagster for anything over one cubic yard, requested and prepaid by 2:30 p.m. the business day before delivery.

The other answer is to have it torn out and hauled in one visit. Rapid Haul does non-structural tear-out of kitchens, baths and flooring, loads it, and takes it to disposal. Room tear-out starts at $750, and debris pickups for a crew that already did the demo start at $200.

Permits come from the City of Boynton Beach Building Division, online through the city's Click2Gov building permit system (help at 561-742-6350). The city's forms list includes an Asbestos Statement and an Owner-Builder Affidavit. Your GC or you as the owner pull the permit. Rapid Haul never pulls permits.

Illustration: the kind of homes in this area03

Older Boynton homes and the west-side developments

Boynton Beach has layers. Lake Boynton Estates, the first planned subdivision, dates to 1926. Leisureville was a 1960s residential project. Former dairy land to the west became housing developments by the 1970s, and growth kept moving west in the 1980s, with more homes along the Intracoastal Waterway and Federal Highway. The city's historic resources board lists 170 historic sites. Hampshire Gardens and Sterling Village are other named communities.

About 64.7% of homes are owner-occupied, with a median value around $351,100, and 22.5% of residents are 65 or older (Census, 2020 to 2024). In practice that means kitchens and baths from decades ago coming out for a remodel, and homes being cleared after a long ownership.
