What the city's Waste Pro service picks up in Atlantis

Atlantis contracts its trash service. The city says its collection company is Waste Pro of Florida, Inc., and the city itself takes missed-pickup reports at 561-965-1744, extension 112. Garbage, vegetation and bulk go on Monday; garbage and recycling on Thursday.

Garbage here is backdoor service. The city pays a premium for twice-weekly pickup from the back or side yard and requires containers to be screened from public view, so if you do not have an in-ground receptacle, do not bring cans to the curb. Bulk is different and does go curbside, with tight timing:

• Bulk may go out at 5 p.m. on Sunday for Monday pickup
• One Sunday a month the window opens at noon; the city's trash page says the first Sunday and its FAQ says the last, so confirm with City Hall
• Homeowner vegetation can go out at noon on Sunday
• Bulk does not include white goods, car parts, engines or construction debris
• Carpet is taken if folded, tied and rolled or bundled in lengths of six feet or less
• Debris from a paid landscaper must be removed by that company the same day

Construction debris goes through Waste Pro here

This is the rule to know before any remodel. The city does not provide garbage service for construction debris, and it says contractors are required to obtain a dumpster from Waste Pro USA for construction debris. The city's dumpster permit form adds that only Waste Pro of Florida dumpsters are permitted, that Waste Pro is the exclusive solid waste removal provider for Atlantis, and that a permit lasts three days, with one dumpster permit per home in any 12 months.

So debris from permitted demolition or remodeling in Atlantis may have to go through the city's franchise hauler. Rapid Haul does not claim any city authorization here. Send Dany photos of the job and he will tell you plainly what applies before anything is booked. If your tear-out debris has to go to Waste Pro, he will say so.

Permits come from the City of Atlantis Building Department at City Hall, 260 Orange Tree Drive (561-965-1744, extension 112), which requires permits for all construction. The city's building page sets work hours of Monday through Saturday, 7:30 am to 6 pm, with no work on Sunday. Your general contractor or you as the owner pulls any permit. Rapid Haul does not pull permits and never touches anything that holds up the house.

Golf course homes, long-time owners and estate cleanouts

Atlantis began in 1958, when developers Nathan Hunt and Paul Kintz bought the former Mulberry Farms cattle ranch and built a gated golf and country club community. It incorporated on June 19, 1959. The city is bounded by the L-14 canal to the north, Lantana Road to the south, Military Trail to the west and Congress Avenue to the east, and its newsletter describes homes, tree-lined streets and golf courses, with Atlantis Country Club and Lost City Golf Club inside the city.

The 2020 Census counted 2,142 residents, 1,226 housing units and 1,018 households. In 21.7% of households, someone 65 or older lives alone. That points to the jobs that come up most in a town like this: a family clearing a parent's house, a downsizing move to something smaller, or a home emptied before it goes on the market. Furniture, appliances, closets and a garage, all leaving at once.

Because bulk only goes out on Sunday evening for Monday, and piles left out midweek can draw code enforcement, a cleanout here cannot simply be staged at the curb over a few days. A crew that carries everything out and hauls it in one visit avoids that.

How Palm Beach County jobs are booked

Rapid Haul is based in Hollywood and works mainly in Broward and Miami-Dade. Atlantis is in Palm Beach County, which Dany covers by request, when the job is worth the drive. Household chemicals and small drop-offs

For household chemicals, the Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County runs Home Chemical and Recycling Centers, for households only. By address, the closest to Atlantis is the Central County Transfer Station and HCRC at 1810 Lantana Road in Lantana, unstaffed Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 7 a.m. to noon. The staffed center is at 6161 N Jog Road in West Palm Beach.
