What Lake Park Public Works collects, and on which day

Lake Park collects its own trash. The Town's Public Works Sanitation Division handles garbage, bulk trash, vegetation and recycling for homes and businesses, and the Solid Waste Department answers at 561-881-3345. Grey garbage cans go Monday and Thursday, vegetation Monday only, recycling Wednesday only, and bulk trash Thursday only.

Under the town code, the Town will collect normal household furniture and appliances on request, such as sofas, chairs, beds, refrigerators, washers, dryers and hot water heaters, and gives you a collection date. A Town fee resolution lists the base bulk service as one item or two cubic yards or less.

The fees add up. A $35 special pickup fee applies when trash goes out and is picked up on the wrong day. If a trash or vegetation pile is over 20 cubic yards, you pay a $35 special pickup fee plus the landfill disposal cost, which is based on weight. Set-out is no earlier than 4:00 p.m. the day before, or by 7:30 a.m. on collection day, within six feet of the street.

For a full-house cleanout, that usually means several requests, several Thursdays and a weight-based bill. One flat price and one visit is often simpler.

Tear-outs, roll-offs and who may haul in Lake Park

This is the rule to know before any remodel. The town code says collection is exclusively vested in the Town, its contractors and franchises. An owner whose property needs roll-off containers for building materials during construction must arrange them through Lake Park Public Works from Town-approved providers, or may be fined. So debris from permitted demolition in Lake Park may have to go through the Town's approved hauler. Dany will tell you what applies before booking, and he will not claim around it.

Permits come from the Town of Lake Park Community Development Department, Building Division, filed electronically through CAP, the Town's contracted building official and inspection company. Permits answer at (561) 881-3318, and Town Hall is at 535 Park Avenue. The Town's demolition checklist asks for a demolition and removal or disposal plan, a tree survey, utility release letters and a pest inspection. Your general contractor, or you as the owner, pulls the permit. Rapid Haul does not.

The curb will not take concrete, asphalt, plaster, rock, roofing materials, tires, car batteries or hazardous materials like gasoline and oil-based paint.

Homes in the first zoned town south of Washington

Lake Park was founded in 1923 as Kelsey City by Harry Seymour Kelsey, planned by the Olmsted brothers and Dr. John Nolan as the first zoned municipality south of Washington, D.C. It was renamed in 1939, when its numbered streets took the names of flowers, plants, shrubs and trees.

The original layout still holds: residential blocks running east to the Intracoastal, industry west of the railroad and Old Dixie Highway. The Town counts 63 buildings from the first settlement, 15 from the Depression era and 23 from 1941 to 1950, and about 92% of its recorded historic structures were built as homes, in Mediterranean Revival, Mission, Spanish Eclectic and Craftsman Bungalow styles. Town Hall, from 1927, is on the National Register.

Homes this age hold decades of belongings. A typical Lake Park call is a full house cleared for a sale or an estate, a garage emptied, or old appliances out after a kitchen refresh.
