What Town pickup collects in Palm Beach Shores

Palm Beach Shores uses Waste Management as its solid waste franchisee, and the Solid Waste Authority does not collect in the Town. Garbage goes in the Waste Management can. Going by the Town's trash page, Monday is trash plus recycling, bulk and vegetation, and Thursday is trash only. Containers go to the roadside by 7:30 am on pickup day, and Town code says nothing goes out earlier than the day before.

The Town is direct about what bulk will not take: "Bulk pickup will not collect construction debris," and the contractor or builder must remove construction materials. For anything else large, call Town Hall at 561-844-3457 before setting it out, since bulk size limits are not published.

• Tree and shrub cuttings no longer than 6 feet, stacked neatly; logs under 50 pounds
• Trimmings limited to one pile of roughly four feet by four feet
• Keep piles three feet from utility pedestals and transformers

Remodels and permits in Palm Beach Shores

All building permits and inspections in the Town go through the Town of Palm Beach Shores Building Department at 247 Edwards Lane. It requires the Town's own application, notarized by both homeowner and contractor, and does not accept the county universal application. Contractors register with the Town, and the forms include a demolition checklist and a demolition sign-off form. Construction hours are Monday to Saturday, 8 am to 5 pm from October 1 to April 30, and 8 am to 6 pm from May 1 to September 30.

Your GC or you as the owner pull the permit. Rapid Haul does not. Dany's crew does the non-structural tear-out (kitchens, baths, flooring, interior partition walls) and hauls the debris, which matters here because the Town's bulk pickup will not touch construction debris. All county waste has to go to SWA-designated facilities, and that is where Rapid Haul takes it.

Old Florida at the tip of Singer Island

Palm Beach Shores sits on the southern tip of Singer Island, between the Atlantic and the Lake Worth Lagoon, with the Palm Beach Inlet to the south. The town has many mid-century homes, many of them restored or being restored, which gives it the character of "a slice of old Florida."
