What Hollywood's bulk and yard pickup will take from a shed job

The contents of a shed are mostly ordinary bulk. Hollywood collects bulk once a month, and the city defines it as furniture, mattresses, appliances, bicycles and similar goods. The city says bulk waste material shall be no more than 6 cubic yards, and it may not go out more than 24 hours before your day.

The shed itself is a different story. The city's refused list includes construction and demolition material, rocks and soil, plus machinery or equipment and any pile that mixes bulk and yard waste. Panels, framing and a broken-up floor are tear-out debris, so they cannot go on the swale.

Yard waste has its own rules: the city allows 4 cubic yards per week, collected weekly, and never mixed with bulk. If you hire a landscaper to clear around the shed, the city says landscapers must haul away their own cuttings, or the owner pays for removal.

Hollywood's franchise rule for demolition debris

Hollywood's city code, section 50.05, says no one may collect, convey or dispose of construction and demolition material, rocks or soil accumulated in the city without a permit from the Director of Public Works. The code says that permit gives the holder a franchise. Permits run one year and renew every September 30.

So here it is plainly. Debris from a permitted shed or detached garage demolition in Hollywood may have to go through the city's permitted franchise hauler. Rapid Haul does not claim to be one. Before you book, Dany checks your job and tells you what applies, and he will not take a load the rules send to someone else.

Permits and the Shed Checklist

Hollywood's Applications & Forms page includes both a Shed Checklist and a Demolition Checklist. Permits are handled by Building staff at City Hall, 2600 Hollywood Boulevard, 954-967-4357, and new applications go through the Accela Citizen Access portal. If your shed or detached garage needs a permit to come down, the property owner or general contractor pulls it. Dany does not pull permits.

Rapid Haul tears down standalone buildings only, as non-structural work. Anything that shares a wall or roof with the house is not a job the crew takes on. Power or water run to the shed has to be disconnected by an electrician or plumber first.

Hollywood backyards, alleys and a real review

Hollywood is an older city. It was founded in 1921 and had more than 12,170 single-family homes by 1960, according to Wikipedia. In Hollywood Lakes, which the city calls its oldest neighborhood, alleys give access to garages and many homes have rear apartments, so a shed may sit off an alley rather than behind a side gate. Tell Dany which way the truck can reach it.

Nelsen D. had his shed taken down here and wrote that the crew did "a great job with my shed demo in my house here in Hollywood" and "left the place spotless." That is the standard: the shed gone, the contents gone, the spot raked clean.

What shed removal costs in Hollywood

Shed removal starts at $350. The flat price covers tear-down, carrying, loading, hauling and disposal. Send three photos: outside, inside with the door open, and the path to the street or alley.

The contents can go on the same price. A concrete pad is a separate item if you want it gone. Narrow access adds time. Detached garages are priced after Dany sees them, and jobs of $1,000 and over take a 50% deposit.
